STORY OF THE YEAR
Song: Anthem of Our Dying Day
Album: Page Avenue (2003)
You know, when at the end of the day, a sudden urge to let your inner Emo get out and scream… turn this track up… WAY UP, and you’re sent right to heaven ! …NOT that I’d know how that feels like…
ENJOOOYYYYY !!

MODESELEKTOR (feat. THOM YORKE)
Song: This
Album: Monkeytown (2011)
What an incredible match! This is not the first collaboration between Berlin’s electro-geniuses Modeselektor and lengendary Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, but every single time a new piece is released I just can’t get over the perfection that arises from the combination of those brilliant beats and atmosphere with this one-of-a-kind voice. If you like this, you should also check out other tracks like White Flash and Shipwreck.
Enjoy!

THE POLICE
Song: So Lonely
Album: Outlandos d’Amour (1978)
Everything has been said over and over about this band, so let’s just enjoy it as it should… loud!
…
Now no one’s knocked upon my door
For a thousand years or more
All made up and nowhere to go
Welcome to this one man show
Just take a seat they’re always free
No surprise no mystery
In this theatre that I call my soul
I always play the starring role

METRIC
Song: Youth Without Youth
Album: Synthetica (upcoming June 12 2012)
Brand new song, brand new album, same old amazing band! But what puts me in such an ecstatic state is the fact that I’ll be attending a special private (almost intimate) Metric show tonight with my good friend MJ in a great little venue called Le National in Montreal. An evening with Emily Haines, there’s no better way to start a long week-end! Thanks Fred!
Have a great one!

DEPECHE MODE
Song: Stripped
Album: Black Celebration (1986)
God, this song is so perfect ! The atmosphere, the lyrics, the voice, and that melody !! NOT the best music video though… Nervertheless, Stripped is just the right track for me tonight for so many reasons. I won’t go into details, but let’s just say that it makes my spine vibrate as it did the very first time I heard it.
Let me see you stripped down to the bone…

POLIÇA
Song: Amongster
Album: Give You the Ghost (2012)
I fell in love twice when I first heard this new indie band from Minneapolis (who put out their first full-lenght album last February), first with this beautiful haunting song with it’s ethereal and sensual ambiance, then with singer Channy Leaneagh, check out the video for Lay Your Cards Out (featuring Mike Noyce of Bon Iver !!) to understand what I mean. Some might find her auto-tuned voice irritating, but I personally find her use of the overly popular software very interesting and somewhat refreshing.
The pursuit of pleasure just got that much more interesting !

MURDERDOLLS
Song: Blood Stained Valentine
Album: Women And Children Last… And Revenge Was the Main Course (2010)
Ohh yeeahhh! B-movie horror metal, this feels pretty awesome right now! Plus, this track features a guest appearance by none other than Mötley Crüe’s guitarist Mick Mars. Just too bad that there isn’t a video to go with that… it’s just so boring to stare at an album cover for 4 minutes. Good thing the track is kick ass!
I’m your blood stained Valentine!

THE MACCABEES
Song: Unknow
Album: Given to the Wild (2012)
This is way too good! I’ve been fixating on this track for a couple of days now, since the day I bought the new album from The Maccabees out of pure curiosity actually (well… AND the fact that I read some amazing praise in NME). Audiophonic orgasm!
Feel it!

DISCOPOLIS
Song: Zenithobia
Album: Zenithobia - EP (2012)
Because it’s only Wednesday and the week is draaaagging (AND it’s raining…), I needed something to bring my Spring hopes back up and give me a kick to be able to get to Friday safe and sound. So I listened to Zenithobia by Edinburgh’s electronic trio Discopolis and miracles started happening. Now I’m smiling, Friday doesn’t seem sooo far anymore… and the sun is out! So here I am spreading the love, try it out, it works!
Enjoy!

BETH HART & JOE BONAMASSA
Song: I’d Rather Go Blind
Album: Don’t Explain (2011)
Here’s a totally mind-blowing rendition of a song from the late great Etta James by one of the most amazing soulful voice I’ve heard in recent years and the immensely talented king of blues. Such a breath-taking passionate performance, hitting that Sunday blues spot right on!
… I’m SO sorry!!

NINE INCH NAILS
Song: Last
Album: Broken (1992)
Had a LOT of fun watching The Cabin in the Woods this past evening, a movie HIGHLY recommended for any horror fan out there! And this was the end title track, gotta love it! “This isn’t meant to last, this is for RIGHT NOW!” Great words to live by. NIN !!!
I though this was the perfect way to end the week, have a kick-ass Friday!

U2
Song: Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
Album: Achtung Baby (1991)
“Sometimes I feel like I don’t know. Sometimes I feel like checking out. I want to get it wrong. Can’t always be strong. And love, it won’t be long…” Absolutely fantastic song to wrap up the week-end… ok, Bono’s voice is not what it used to be anymore, but still… it’s a hell of a song!
Baby light my way!

SHEARWATER
Song: Animal Life
Album: Animal Joy (2012)
This is fast becoming my favorite song of the moment! And for some unknown reason (blame some astral conjuncture, the weather or something like that…), its primal simplicity, its organic-arty-soundscape and Jonathan Meiburg’s unique voice are particularly striking today. Great Friday track.
Enjoy the “half remembered wild interior of an animal life”!

INTERPOL
Song: NYC
Album: Turn on the Bright Lights (2002)
Great tune, great band… great city. It’s up to me now, turn on the bright lights!
NEW YORK CARES!

KILLING JOKE
Song: Love Like Blood
Album: Night Time (1985)
When I got in my car to get to work on this wet gloomy Monday, this is what was playing on my iPod and it was fitting the mood SO perfectly that it became my anthem for the day. This song was the perfect balance of the former more aggressive (almost metal) side of the band and the calmer, chart-friendly (more watered down) side they would ultimately become. Metal-edged, 80’s industrial melodic punk at it’s very best!
“Till the fearless come and the act is done. A love like blood, a love like blood.”
